India to collaborate with trusted partners like Australia & Japan to rebuild global economy: Dr Jaishankar Pune, Feb 26 (KNN) Minister of External Affairs (MEA) Dr S Jaishankar, while upholding the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, emphasized the need to collaborate with trusted partners such as Australia and Japan to build synergies in rebuilding the global economy.
Speaking at the Asia Economic Dialogue 2021 on Friday, he also asserted that trade between nations should be on a level-playing field.
Dr Jaishankar further highlighted the government’s continuing emphasis on the MSME sector as a driver for economic growth in India.
“We in India have been strongly batting for the MSMEs who are the backbone of our economy. ” In the last one year, India has faced three major challenges - Covid-19, economic inequalities and border problems,” he said.
He also added that while listening to diverse views the government had chalked out path-breaking measures to address all three challenges.
Marise Payne, the Australian foreign minister explained the various steps her government has been taking to contain the pandemic in Australia and make sure that the vaccination process reaches the grassroots level.
She further said the two challenges before her government have been openness in free trade, access to multilateral trade agenda and boosting the supply chain infrastructure.
We want use the modern technology including the artificial intelligence and quantum mechanics so that we ensure that our economy is not affected by any such calamity in future. While aiming to achieve self-reliance, we also have to look for `trustworthy partnerships’ at the international level, she added.
Motegi Toshimitsu, Japan Minister for Foreign Affairs, in his address, said Japan has used the last eight months to beef up its multi-level supply chain and had been focusing on Green economy and Digital economy.
The panel discussion was chaired by Dr Naushad Forbes, Co-Chairman, Forbes & Marshall who asserted that one of the major challenges before the world is how to effectively use the political instruments to fuel economic growth.
The trade negotiations should be done at the micro level between nations across the various barriers, he added.
The Asia Economic Dialogue 2021 (AED 2021) is being jointly convened by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Pune International Centre (PIC).
The theme for this years conference is Post Covid-19 Global Trade and Finance Dynamics featuring high-level international participation from foreign ministers of a number of countries, senior bureaucrats, industry leaders and global financial experts.
