Nationwide strike by Port Workers on 15th Dec Mumbai, 13 Dec (KNN) As per a communique from Mumbai Port Trust owned by government of India, no leave may be granted to employees on 15th December, 2021 as major port workers association have declared a nationwide protest on that day.

It has categorically stated that absence of employee during the period of strike may be treated on the principal of ‘no work no pay’.

All the officers have been ensured to remain on duty at their respective work point, said Mumbai Port Trust.

It has said that, this step has been taken by the autonomous corporation despite of several efforts to avoid it after receiving strike notice from All India Port & Dock Workers’ Federation, Transport & Docks workers union (Mumbai), MbPT Flotilla Workers’ Association, MbPT workers union, and MbPT Kamgar Ekta union.

Mumbai Port Trust (also known as the Bombay Port Trust) is a port which lies midway on the West coast of India, on the natural deep-water harbour of Mumbai (Bombay) in Maharashtra. The harbour spread over 400 square kilometres (150 sq mi) is protected by the mainland of Konkan to its east and north and by the island city of Mumbai to its west.

The harbour opens to the south to the Arabian Sea. The port is administered by the Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT, formerly the Bombay Port Trust (BPT)), an autonomous corporation wholly owned by the Government of India. The port is primarily used for bulk cargo, while most container traffic is directed to Nhava Sheva port across the harbour.
