Today is the last day to link PAN-Aadhaar; Rs 500 - Rs 1,000 penalty from tomorrow New Delhi, Mar 31 (KNN) Today, March 31, 2022, is the last date to link PAN Cards with Aadhaar. From tomorrow, penalty will be imposed in case the two are not linked.

A penalty of Rs 500 for first three months will be imposed to those who fail to link their PAN card and Aadhaar by today which is the last date to complete the process.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) had set 31st March 2022 as the deadline after extending the previous end date of 30th September, 2021.The previous deadline for linking PAN card with Aadhaar was 30th September 2021 .

Apart from the penalty of Rs 500 PAN card will be inoperative if it is not linked with Aadhaar card by 31st March 2022.

The PAN can be made operative again upon intimation of Aadhaar to the prescribed authority after payment of a prescribed fee, said CBDT.

However, the CBDT has clarified that non-linked PAN will continue to be valid till March 31, 2023. The PAN will become inoperative after this date if the linking process is not complete. This can impact several financial transactions for an individual.

To link your Aadhaar card with PAN, tax payers have to first register on the Income tax e-Filing portal and complete the process. Government has made access to several important documents available from the comfort of peoples homes in the wake of COVID-19. (KNN Bureau)
